My first question for you is about your initial reactions to the novel. What do you think?! Do you like it? Not like it? Have you read anything like it before?
I think that Bronx Masquerade is pretty great novel. To me, it is realistic and shows the ssues that many teens face in school and in their world. I am a poetry junkie, so I love this book. However, I really enjoy the further details that the prose provides. I am excited that students are reading this book and think that if they like this book, there are many others they could read like Walter Dean Myers' "Street Love" or Sharon Creech's "Love That Dog." If students don't care for the poetry, but like realness of "Bronx Masquerade" then books by Coe Booth, Angela Johnson, Sharon M. Draper might be for them.
ReplyDeleteI like it.I really enjoyed the way the author used slang to really help the reader know how the characters spoke.I never read anything like this before.I usually only read mythical, romantic, comedy books but once i began reading Bronx Masquerade I'm thinking about reading more books like it.

Even Thouqh We Just Started Readinq This Book I Am Done With It! Meaninq I Like The Book. It Was Very Intrestinq. I Love How The Characters Write Out Their Feelinqs Down In Their Poem & Have The Couraqe To Read It Out Loud To The Class. I Also Liked The Idea Of How The Teacher Made It A Poetry Jam.

I really like the book. At first I didn't think I would like it , but I really do.The book is very interesting.Most books I read that has poetry in it are really bad.I only have 12 pages left and I'm done.This is the first time I read a book by this author and I think I might read another one of her books.

I like the Bronx Masqurade a lot.It is interesting to hear about how other people feel about those around them,their family,and their life in general.I read the book in a day and a half.One book I am thinking about reading Miracle's Boys becuase my brothers and I used to watch the series for it everyday the new episode came on.There was this other book that I read that had poetry in it.The poetry was so good that I wrote all fifteen or more of the poems in the book down in a notebook.I don't have a favorite character yet but I might have one in mind. ReplyDeleteThis book has good and bad points to it. The reason I enjoyed it is it seems to be incredibly realistic. One of the reasons I didn't like the book to full potential is there are many characters to remember the back round information of. I also didn't enjoy how near the beginning of the book there is not a bold problem. Through all those aspects, my first impression of the book is that it is interesting and I'm looking forward to reading more of it.

I really enjoy this book. Most people would be too scared to write their true feelings down and then read them out loud to a class. This book is really unique and keeps me reading. I like how it introduces the characters, but I feel it goes deeper when it uses the poetry. The book is really well written and interesting. I hope others enjoy it too.

I like the book because the author uses slang to help the reader understand how the characters communicated. The kinds of books i like to read are fiction, mystery, and horror.

I think the book is great so far. When you read the book you get very indepth in the book because the author uses slang so teens and young adults can relate and understand what shes talking about.

I think the book is fantastic. The book has lots of drama in it which would relate to the real world. This book makes me want to read more now because it is great and because I can understand literature a little bit better. Just looking at the cover, I didn't think I was going to like this book. When i read the back of the book i still didn'think i was going to like it. I finished the book two days after we received it and I still was not impressed. It was an O.K. book but, I'm really not interested in books like this. The troubled urban kids with the weird names that are doing poorly in school and all of a sudden their English teacher gives them an assignment that makes them really "appreciate" school. Although I see how books like this benefit kids who really live that way and, maybe even those who don't, I'm still not interested. Another thing that disappointed me in this book is the way the author talked about some characters a lot and some of the characters once, and never again.

I think the book is great! I like how the characters express their feelings in poetry. They also have problems that us kids have today. This book is really interesting and i cant wait to get further into the book.

I love the Bronx Masquerade i read the whole thing and i am actually re-reading it.I have read many books like the Bronx Masquerade such as the Ellen Hopkin books, PUSH FICTION novels, and books by Sonya Sones. I really enjoy reading books that have poetry in them. The book could have been a lot better if the author wrote more because for every person the author didnt give that much informations, and for some people they were only in the book once. Other then that the book was really great and i really enjoyed reading it.

When we first started reading this book in class I wasn't that interested. When I got home, I decided to read the book a little further. Then, I started to realizze that it was interesting. I like how the book isn't all just constant chapters. Instead, it has poems that many students can relate to.

i have already bread they entire book and i really liked it i really was able to relate to the book some of the things that have happened in the book pull you in its like your watching, it as you read it.
ReplyDeleteBronx Masquerade is a very good book it express what we do as teens and what problems we face.With the character "jump shot" or Devin he doesn't want anybody to see the real him.I felt like that at one point in time of my life about going to church and having people making fun of me.There is a video of a masquerade that i want you to see.Go to youtube and search up all the right moves by one republic.

I enjoyed it.I really like the way the author used slang to really help the reader understand the way the characters speak in the novel.I usually only read sports, mystery, and comedy books but once i began reading Bronx Masquerade I'm finding that more modern life books are very interesting.

I am really enjoying The Bronx Masquerade. To me, what makes a good book is the ability for the reader to really relate to the characters and their stories. Everything from how the characters in the story talk, to their personal problems is extremely realistic. The only thing that I don't like about The Bronx Masquerade is that because of all of the different characters in the book, it makes it hard to follow along. This is the type of book that you have to sit down and read in order to fully understand it. Besides that, the book is really good. I love all of the poems.

I also enjoy the fact that they use slanq terms in the book that i can relate to.I don't really read much but the books i do read aren't usually a set of poems but i quess the story's and poems are similar to some stories i have read. I havent qone far in the book but i like what i read so far.

I like the book so far because when you start to read it you see all these slang word a lot of the teenagers like to use or here and we really don't get that a lot in our books we read in school.also,this is my first time reading this book and I also love the poems that are in here because some of them are real toughing to you and seem very sweet.So,yes I like the book that we are reading.

I think its good book because it has a lot of realistic facts instead of fiction. Also I like the book very much because of the poetry explain them selfs more than the story if you care to dig deep enough. I compare this book to the Bluford High series because it shows how some kid in real life feel.

Bronx Masquerade Is By Far The Most Inticing Novel I Have Read In A While. It Relates To The Actual Challenges That Teenagers Of Both Genders Go Through On A Daily Basis. In My Opinion Most Tennagers Who Have Read This Novel Can Find Something Comforting About It, Meaning That If They Are Going Through The Same Problems As Some Of The Characters In The Book, They Can Know That They Are Not The Only Ones. I Would Highly Recommend This Book To Any Person Whether They Are Young Or Old. I Believe They Will Find This Book As Interesting As I Do.

The book is very good so far. The thing I do not like is that the book has only one person(Tyrone) commenting on other characters poems. One of the reasons that I like this book is because it is different from many other books. The book also has some things that I do not like about the book. Such as, There are too many characters and it gets really confusing remembering all of them. But everything else the book is very goog and interesting.

Slang and poetry makes it easy to understand what character is really trying to say. This book also has pretty interesting poems which makes this book different from other books. I hope that everyone is enjoying reading this book.

How ever i was dissapoited as i went on reading it and it is a little boring to me now. Sorry,to those who love it and i am not super exited to continue reading it! I think that the book is very good. It is like some people life's now. What i mean by that is that some kids want to drop out and find something they like school related. So Im really saying that i like the book because it's like everyday life for some people and i think thats cool.

This book is interesting. I wonder if theres a movie based on this book. If not tht still doesnt change my mind about the book. As natalie said, i love the fact that its written on poems and not plain old paragraphs. Although it still partly is in paragraph form. Its sad to me what kind of minds these kids have and they dont want to be willing to al least try and give it a shot towards success. They will be what they want to be and in this case its nothing so yeah. I like the book. They should make the second edition of it. I havent finished reading it yet but i will.

I think Bronx Masquerade is a great book to read because it's a book that people can relate to and it tells about people who have faced the problems that some of us did like relationships that go wrong and having problems in school (ex: not doing homework, getting bad grades on tests and quizzes, etc.). At first, I thought I would be bored if I read it, but when I started reading it, I just wanted to read more of it and I really thought it was an interesting book to read.

I think this is a really nice book. Its also funny. Tyrone's character says he thinks school is just a waist of time. Also about the education, he thinks that he doesn't need it. I wouldn't of read this book if i didn't have homework on it. I like books that are basketball and or mystery kinds of books

When i first saw the cover i thought that the book wasn't going to be good. Then when we started reading i felt the same way. Devon has to sneak to the library because he doesn't want the basketball team to see him reading. Devon likes to read. Most people might feel like devon because they're being put in groups with their own kind. For example, if I'm related to Kobe Bryant, people with exspect me to be as good as a basketball player he is or even better.
