Blog Question Week of 5/3

Please choose a line from any of the poems in the novel and discuss its significance to you. What is the line saying? Why did you choose this line?

48 comments:

  1. i think that the line most significance to me would be

    Thats when we see it,
    a buoy called friendship
    bobbing up between us
    and we swim towards it
    for all we are worth
    and we meet there,
    somewhere
    in the middle.

this is showing that sometimes to lessen the pain and not feel the alone you just need to be willing to accept a friend. Sometimes thats all that is needed a friend to help you out. but you can axpect them to come to you or you can't just go to them, you have to meet somewhere in the middle. I chose this line because i really enjoyed the poem and ot really meant something to me.

  2. "IN CASE I FORGOT TO TELL YOU I'M ALLERGIC TO BOXES, SHOE BOXES, NEW BOXES, EVEN CEREAL BOXES" Well i pick this part from a poem name black box by Devon Hope because i don't really like to be around alot of people i don't know. The line is saying he don't like being around new people he don't like. He don'[t like to be in new groups of people that he don't know. He will feel like he can't move from that one place. I choose this line because i think of me when i was reading this poem and i think the same way about what he said in his poem.

  3. The line of the poem I chose is from Chankara when she said I've got no use for lame excuses or imitation love that packs a punch. This line meant something to me because this what young girls should be saying. The line is basically saying she doesn't need a man who is going to abuse or hit her.Domestic violence is a big issue in the U.S and that's why i chose this line because she left her relationship immediately after her boyfriend hit her.

  10. The line I choose is from Sheila's poem Private Puzzle. The line is "God must love puzzles the way he scattered our pieces across the table of the world."I think it means we don't know were we fit in or who we are until we have traveled across the world.I think Sheila also means god left us on earth to figure out what puzzle piece goes where and how we fit into the society we live in as who we are or whatever picture we make up.I chose the line because it really shows and repersents how most or some teenagers feel when it comes to where they fit in,in the world around them.I think this poem has some real sentimental value to me because I once didn't know where I belonged in the groups of people around me in like sixth or fifth grade. ~Alize Robinson~

  11. The line: I've got no use/ for lame excuses/ or imitation love/ that packs/ a punch. I love this line because it stands out to me. This line means that it's not real love if you have to worry about getting hit. She is saying has no time to be lying for you even though you said you'd never do it again. She's like one of my favorite characters because she was brave and told her boyfriend to get out.

  16. One of the poem that I like was the one that Devon wrote Black Box. The thing that its trying to say is that Devon wants have to make hi ony chose he don't want to trap in a box.The only thing that he want to be confind with is his skin bones. The thing that i like about it is that he is concerned about his skin and body.

What's the meaning of this line of a poem is that he/she doesn't want to be trap in a place that he/she does not want to be. I like this poem/line of this poem is because I, too don't like to be in a boxe. I don't like to be trap in a place that I don't want to be.

  19. "My body is the only box i belong in" i chose this line because it talks about people who are trying to fit in with cool kids.i think you should always be yourself because it doesn't matter who you are.
It doesn't matter who you are you can be anything you want to be. This line is interesting because some kids want to keep their true identity and don't want to show to the real world who they really are. ~

  22. Devon Hope-Black Box-"Mark them geeky, wimpy,bully....just don't put me in one, son believe me I won't fit" This part of the poem is saying that you can call people wimpy, geeky, etc, but don't put me in a box because I'm not in a category. For me, I hate it when people are categorized into groups, whether it's geek/smart or brat. The thing is people, including me tend to judge others before even getting to know them. I think that is why people put others in "boxes"

''some will , no doubt come up wanting requiring a change of designation''.This to me means that it will be a time in your life when you want better for yourself. It also means that life is a required change and will have to be changed because of the wants we come to have.I chose this line because it has a great meaning .Also because it is a true statement.

i think devon is tired of people labeling him as just a dumb jock. devon knows he's not dumb or just a jock.devon loves to resd and is a very smart articulate person not just a basketball player.devon knows he must stay true to his self and listen to all the negative things they say about or to him

  31. " Lucky for me,
I don't bruise easily."- Janelle Battle

I choose this line because although to most people I act like a big baby, I'm not. People often try to say things to hurt me and they think that I will cry, but I just say whatever and brush it off. If It Is something that really hurt me I won't cry right on the spot though. I chose this line because it sort of relates to me and how i am. This line simply means that some people have a stronger mentality than others and they don't let hateful or hurtful things get them down.

  32. " Bang! There lay my dream on the ground. Thank God, eventually I came around and dreamed another dream." ~ Steve Ericson
I chose this line from Steve's poem "Doubtless" because it shows how strong he is. When you have a dream and then someone comes along and destroys it, it's not easy to find another one. When he says "Thank God", he really is thankful, because most people that lose their dreams just give up. Steve had the will power to move on with his life, and I commend him for that.

  33. Sterling S. Hughes- "God's qot me covered' cause im good, but not that good."

I think he is saying that he is as good as he can be but he is not always perfect. There are times when he makes mistakes and do bad but inside he is good.To me this is saying that nobody is perfect or good even if they want to be because in every good person there is some bad.

-I think she means that there two different sides of her when she looks in the mirror.Sometimes it reflects on me because I'll sometimes think theres something going on with me when I look in the mirror, like I want to be a different person.Even though I just need to be myself and not nobody else.

The line from a poem in the book is from Devon. It reads "my name is suprise."The line is saying that Devon is not who people think he is.It also means that he is different then the person people put him out to be.He doesn't want people to make a name for him he wants to make one homself and suprise those around him.I chose the line because I suprise people with the things I do and when I achive something great that nobody thought was possible. ~Jouliana Afet~

This line is saying that the poet is really tired of hiding and does not want to reveal the truth. The reason that I chose this poem is because their are many people with this problem.People all the time are trying to act as someone that they are not to fit in.This poem explains that it is ok to be who you are and not follow others but be a leader.
